Tolerance behaviours of the directors of foreign language schools and mobbing levels of instructors

This research has been done in order to determine the relation between the mobbing levels of instructors, their vocational features and the tolerance behaviours of the directors of Schools of Foreign Languages at Dokuz Eylul University, Ege University, Izmir University of Economics, Gediz University, İzmir University, Kâtip Çelebi University, İzmir Institute of Technology and Yaşar University. Therefore this research aims to offer suggestions on how to decrease the mobbing levels of instructors in addition to managing schools of foreign languages in a more effective way. In the research, data obtained from 405 instructors who work at the school of foreign languages at the 8 universities mentioned above in 2012-2013 academic year has been used. In the research, Questionnaire of Vocational Features of Instructors which has been developed by the researcher, Leader Behaviour Description Questionnaire which has been developed by J.K. Hemphill ve A.E. Coons (1950) and Negative Acts Questionnaire which has been developed by Einarsen ve Rankes (1997) have been used as data collection tools. In analysing the data, t and F tests and r calculation have been used depending on the type of data group and Tukey test has been used when the difference is high and it is necessary to find out from which group the difference occured. As the result of this research, it is detected that the mobbing levels of instructors working at all the schools of foreign languages departments in Izmir is a little lower than half (X?= 2,37 out of 5). Furthermore, the mobbing levels of instructors differ in a meaningful way depending on the gender of their directors at the school of foreign languages where they are currently working, on the level of tolerance behaviours shown by their directors of School of Foreign Languages, on their ages, on the type of university they are employed by, on the status whether or not they have done their graduate degree abroad and on the weekly teaching load. Finally, the correlation analysis results have determined that there is a negative relation between the mobing levels of instructors and tolerance behaviours of the directors of school of foreign languages. Therefore, as the tolerance levels of directors of schools of foreign languages increase, the mobbing levels of instructors decrease.
