Teachers and students' views to the problems encountered in education of foreign primary school students

The aim of this research is to examine the problems of the foreign primary school students in the education process in Eskişehir, the sources of these problems and the solutions to these problems with the views of teachers and students. The data of this research, which is a qualitative study, was gathered through student- teacher personal data forms and student- teacher semi-structured interviews. The data as the part of the interviews was conducted in eight primary schools, twenty one primary school teachers and twenty four foreign primary students which are in the Eskişehir city center. Content analysis was used to analyze the data gathered in the study. In light with the findings, the following results were revealed: •Under the main-theme of common problems of the foreign students encountered, "Exclusion", "Language and Cultural Differences", "Harmony", "Environmental Relations", "Economic Issues" and "Political Issues" sub-themes were determined. According to the results of this research, students can't adapt to Turkish traditions, school rules and their new life, grouping with their own relatives and living off format, contact with their teachers and friends, because of their skin colour they were seen as foreigners and excluded sometimes and also they got isolated. •Under the main-theme of educational process, problems of the foreign students encountered, "Language and Cultural Differences", "Basic Language Skills", "Understanding," "Expression and Comment", "Lagging Behind the Program" and "Academic Failure" sub-themes were determined. According to the data of this research, students are unable to understand their teacher and friends, to contact with people, to express their feelings and opinions and to attend courses and they have a lower academic achievement and mostly failed. •Source of the problems of the education encountered was divided into sub-themes as "From Students", "From Teachers", "From Family" and "From Ministry of Education and Government". •Sub-themes of the problems caused by the student were determined as, "Being included in the education system without acquiring the language," "Starting the training in the interim period", "Adaptations problems", " Indifference to the lessons", "Perception retardation" and "Discipline problems". •Sub-themes of the problems caused by the teachers were determined as "Communication problems with the students and families", " "Teaching methods and professional competence", "Measurement and assessment", "Being unable to find solutions" and " Being unable to speak a universal language". •Sub-themes of the problems caused by the families were determined as, "Financial situation of the family", "Educational status of the family", "Lack of communication with the school administration and teachers,","Paying inadequate attention to the child" and "Lack of the education and the future plans". •Sub-themes of the problems caused by the Ministry of Education and the governments were determined as "The problems based on political issues", " The problems based on education system ", " The problems based on Program " and "Lack of Turkish teaching course and material". •The solution proposals to the problems encountered in education by the foreign students were , "To the students", "To the teachers and the schools", "To the families" and "To the Ministry of Education and the government" and the sub-themes consisted of these themes were explained in detail.
