In teaching Turkish to foreigners, the story of Hüseyin Su's "Gülşefdeli Yemeni" B1 level adaptation and readability

Textbooks alone are not sufficient in teaching Turkish as a foreign language.In teaching Turkish as a foreign language, reading books should be emphasized as well as textbooks.For this reason, reading books that will contribute to teaching Turkish as a foreign language should be prepared as an auxiliary source for textbooks.The reading books to be prepared will contribute to the learning of the Turkish language by individuals who learn the target language.However, when we look at the studies in the field of teaching Turkish to foreigners in Turkey, it is seen that the texts adapted to improve the reading skills of the learners are insufficient.Based on this idea, the study was conducted to help eliminate the need for reading texts both during and outside the lesson.In this study, it is aimed to use Hüseyin Su's story "Gülşefdeli Yemeni", which has not been adapted before, as an auxiliary resource in order to improve the reading skills of learners learning Turkish as a foreign language by adapting it to B1 language level in accordance with the text change criteria. The language structures that the B1 level learner should learn have been adapted on the basis of Istanbul University New Istanbul Turkish for Foreigners B1 level Textbook. During the process, the reading acquisition criteria in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages were also taken into consideration.Reading activities have been prepared at the end of this adapted text. With in the activities prepared, it is aimed to contribute to improve the reading comprehension skills of learners who learn Turkish as a foreign language.
