Determination of the physical-mechanical properties of some rocks using as building stone

In this thesis, physical, mechanical and petrographical properties of native marbles and import granites were examined which being used as building stone in Adana region. The results of these investigation showed that the best marbles are Uşak Beyaz and Afyon Beyaz and the best granites are Nero Zimbabwe and Raw Silk. According to investigation results of Uşak Beyaz and Afyon Beyaz marbles, it was seen that the marbles has a spesific gravity of 2,698-2,680 g/cm3, unit weight values of 2,675 - 2,660 g/cm3, porosity of % 0,852-0,746, water absorbsion volume of % 0,235-0,274, weight loss after freezing and thawin of % 0,03-0,46, the bohme surface abrasion value of 15 cm3 / 50 cm2-14,8 cm3 / 50 cm2, the flexural tensile strenght of 12,8 MPa-12,7 MPa and the shore hardnees of 37. Nero Zimbabwe and Raw Silk granites have spesific gravity of 3,032-2,641 g/cm3, unit weight values of 2,982-2,601 g/cm3, porosity of % 1,649-2,641, water absorbsion volume of % 0,239- 0,341, weight loss after freezing and thawin of % 0,34-0,43, the bohme surface abrasion value of 4,8 cm3 / 50 cm2-3,5 cm3 / 50 cm2, the flexural tensile strenght of 17,9 MPa-12,9 MPa and the shore hardnees of 94. According to the results, the experiment were interpreted according to the standarts TS 10449, TS 6234 and TS 11143. It has been observed that the rocks covers limit values of these standarts.
