In this study, The Effect of Creative Writing Techniques on the Written Expression Skills of 5th grade students in Turkish Lessons was analysed and attitudes towards written expression were determined. The research was implemented in classes 5-B and 5-D at Özel Ege Primary School which is located in Bornova, İzmir. In the research, experimental method including pretest-posttest control groups was used. There were 23 students in experimental group, 23 students in control group and 46 students in total. In the research, an ?Attitude Scale For Written Expression? which was developed by the researcher and to evaluate creative writing activities and written expressions, ?Criterion Form For Creative Writing? which was developed by Kırmızı (2008) were used as data collection tools. Before the implementation, free writing pretest and attitude scale for written expression were implemented to the control and experimental groups. A prestudy was made by the implementation of Attitude Scale For Written Expression, which was developed by the researcher, to 55 students composing the universe.Reliability co-efficient of 30 items from the scale was found as Cronbach Alfa .9536. Content, implementation and construct validity studies were made. As the free writing topic, the students decided on ?animals and technological developments? and composed written expression products on these topics. For the data to be obtained healthily, in the posttest, the students were required to write on the same topic as the pretest. During the implementation, while the writing activities existing in the Turkish curriculum and creative writing activities were going on in the experimental group, only the writing activities existing in the Turkish curriculum were implemented in control group. After the implementation, attitude scale for free writing and written expression posttest was reimplemented to the experimental and control groups. To determine if there is a significant difference between experimental and control group students according to their attitudes for creative writing skill and written expression, data analysis using ?t? test in SPSS 16.0 packaged software was done. The summary of the research findings is as follows:1.A significant difference was found in favor of posttest between free writing pretest and posttest point averages of experimental group students to whom creative writing activities were implemented.2.There was no significant difference between free writing pretest-posttest point averages of control group students going on their education with the writing activities existing in the Turkish curriculum.3.There was a significant difference in favor of experimental group between free writing posttest point averages of the experimental group students who went on writing with creative writing activities and free writing posttest point averages of the control group who went on with writing activities existing in the Turkish curriculum.4.There was a significant difference in favor of posttest between Attitude Scale For Written Expression pretest and posttest point averages of experimental group students to whom creative writing activities were implemented.5.There was no significant difference between Attitude Scale For Written Expression pretest and posttest point averages of control group students to whom creative writing activities weren?t implemented.6.There was a significant difference in favor of experimental group between attitude scale for written expression posttest of experimental group students who went on writing with creative writing activities and attitude scale for written expression posttest of control group students who went on writing with activities existing in Turkish curriculum.
