The impact of illegal migration policies on EU-Turkey relations

Presently, globalization and the possibilities offered by technology have changed people's lifestyles significantly. This change has not always improved in a positive sense. Significant differences between countries' levels of development have begun to emerge and economic conditions have begun to exert a great influence on the prosperity levels of countries. This situation has led to increasing migration from developing countries towards developed countries. Turkey may be inadequate in some cases even though it uses all the legal possibilities to prevent this situation. The reason for this inadequacy is that the EU provides adequate support for the issue in Turkey. Turkey is the primary country that the EU needs to prevent illegal migration due to its geographical location. This study has been prepared to reveal EU-Turkey relations and to explain the issue of illegal migration which is one of the important factors determining the relations of these relations and how this affects relations between Turkey and the European Union. In the first part of the study consisting of three parts, the concept of migration was put forward. In the second part, the policies of the EU regarding illegal migration and migrants are expressed in the historical chronology. In the third and last section, the effects of the migration struggle of the European Union on Turkey-EU relations were examined.
