A study on the contribution of the participation of parents in the education process of the student success in the framework of lifelong learning

The aim of this study is to investigate the contribution of the participation of families in the education process to the achievement of students in the framework of lifelong learning. The research was carried out with the parents of students from 5 different schools in Bartın in the 2015-2016 academic year. Data were collected through questionnaire and interview form applied to parents.. In the research, a mixed method using both qualitative and quantitive methods was used. ANOVA and Mann Whitney U tests were used to analyze the quantitative data. In the analysis of qualitative data, the data obtained as a result of the interviews were evaluated with descriptive analysis method. As a result of the study, the participation of the parents in the education process did not show a significant difference according to gender, educational status and professional variables. It was obtained that the parents mostly contribute to the education process in the school by attending the parents' meeting and activities at the school and by controlling the activities in the school. It was also obtained that the parents explained the factors preventing them from participating in the training process, as the difficulty in helping the children with their homework, the difficult course content, the distance between school and home , having the communication problem and being unable to express themselves It is concluded that it is a must to have a family support and a commen share between parents and children in the process of parents' participating in the training process' effect on the student success, In the research it is obtained that the children raised in wealthy families are more successful than others.
