Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to explain the services provided for elderly individuals within the scope of social municipality activities in Turkey through the example of Ankara province. This study is a qualitative research and the documents used as data collection tools were analyzed by content analysis method. Within the scope of the study, detailed conceptual explanations about old age were made. By sharing detailed statistics on old age from both the world and Turkey, the demographic situation and transformation were tried to be explained, and information was given about the services provided to increase the welfare of elderly individuals. In the second part, local governments and social municipalism are discussed and the past and present of the subject are mentioned in detail. In the last part, the services provided by Ankara Metropolitan Municipality and Çankaya Municipality, Keçiören Municipality, Yenimahalle Municipality and Mamak Municipality, which have the highest population in Ankara province, respectively, for elderly individuals within the scope of social municipalism activities are examined through their annual reports. Population is based on the Address Based Population Registration System published annually by the Turkish Statistical Institute. The services provided by these municipalities were examined by taking into account the purpose, scope, number of target beneficiaries, number of beneficiaries and realization rates. In this way, the effectiveness and efficiency of the service was also evaluated. In addition, this study has tried to contribute to the welfare of the elderly and the development of social municipalism by making some policy recommendations.
