A NEW GLOBAL PROBLEM, AN OLD COPING MECHANISM: ANTROPOGENIC CLIMATE CHANGE INDUCED MIGRATION AND TURKEY Global climate change is one of the biggest problems of the 21st century that human beings cause and face. Human dimension of climate change has been ignored so far, but it is now clearly known that it is not only an ecological, but also a humanitarian crisis. Environment always contributed to the shaping of population movements around the world. One of the factors affecting human mobility in today's world, where establishing a culture of living together is more important than ever, is environmental disasters. This study presents a general view of climate change and migration relations, and discusses those important issues, including social and political contexts that emerged from the current empirical findings. In addition, concepts dealing with climate change and immigration relations are covered, and the issue is also addressed in the context of international policy and security debates. This study, which is based on a comprehensive literature and document review, aims to fill the gap in the literature in Turkey while serving as a source for further empirical research. One of the main recommendations of this study is that empirical research should be conducted promptly in order to determine the role of climate change in migration movements from surrounding territories with the destination Turkey and also present/possible migration movements within Turkey due to climate change effects.
