Abstract (EN)
Anatolian lands hosted many communities throughout the ancient period. One of these important communities is Phrygians who came to Anatolia with a migration movement at the end of the 2nd millennium BC. Phrygians have become one of the prominent communities in the historical process of Anatolia with their belief systems, socio-economic relations, architecture, ceramic production, textile and mining skills and legends, shortly with the material and intangible cultural heritage they left. The excavations carried out in Gordion shows that Phrygians took the appearance of a powerful central kingdom in the 10th century BC. The aim of the current thesis is to examine Phrygian pottery together with its samples in both the capital city Gordion and other areas where it has spread and to present the current results as a whole by evaluating their typologies and chronologies from the Early Iron Age to the Middle Phrygian Period. Phrygian pottery is seen in many parts of Anatolia, centered on the western plateau of Anatolia. However, the number of studies carried out so far on this subject is quite limited in consideration to the ceramic density. This situation necessitates it to be mentioned as one of the difficulties encountered during the research on Phrygian pottery. In this thesis, Phrygian pottery has been studied centered on Gordion. The main reason for this situation is that the settlement layers in Gordion are well known. Another reason is that the ceramic tradition that we encounter in Gordion continued uninterruptedly from the 9th century until the 4th century BC and a similar situation was observed in the settlements on the western plateau, one of the primary settlements of Phrygians. In order to determine the spreading area of Phrygian pottery, totally 120 settlements that have ceramic findings were examined. 73 of these settlements are located in the west of Kızılırmak and 45 are in the east. Due to the difference between the ceramic traditions encountered in the east and west of Kızılırmak, with the evaluation of the conclusions reached within the scope of the thesis, it has emerged that the ceramic tradition seen in the western and central parts of Phrygia should be accepted in the most basic way for Phrygian ceramics. In addition, although ceramic tradition in Alisar IV encountered in the Kızılırmak Basin and in Tabal Country has many similar points with Phrygian ceramics, it should not be evaluated within the scope of Phryg ceramics for now, considering the points it differs from.
