Abstract (EN)

The twenty-first century is the urban century, where a significant portion of the world's population lives in cities and towns. As a material structure, the city is also a socio-cultural structure where gender, race/ethnicity, age, sexuality, and social classes are layered on top of each other. The technological change created by Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) has necessitated a direct relationship between advanced globalization and neoliberal economic restructuring and urbanization. In this study, neoliberal economy and ICT are examined as two important power instruments that stand out with their negative effects on urban society. Global capitalism and ICT applications, which have become mandatory elements of urban life, force the urban dweller to become a user, consumer, or spectator rather than a free citizen, disrupting his/her sociality. In the 21st century, the resistance against the standardizing and fluid power apparatus that produces daily life in the postmodern city is an emphasis on the necessity of changing the way a culture or society works, no matter how small or how effective (revolutionary). Although humanity has made significant progress in the name of civilization throughout history, it has never managed to get rid of the destructive effects of power systems, especially capitalism, and has never been fully civilized. Defending an original alternative to the dominant global, thus struggling/resisting, takes place around the opposing discourses of individual or temporary collective communities between the space of flows (global network) and the space of spaces (alternative real public in new media) in the network society. These practices are a set of human-machine-made creative works or processes consisting of important values, expressions and expectations that constitute the real public culture against power. Artworks developed as counterv resistance in new media; are deconstructive alternative digital cultural contents that restructure existing meanings and forms in a way that opens up new perspectives, as well as interventions that distort given power systems produced from scratch with an activist/hacktivist attitude: Understanding, revealing/breaking or manipulating the discourses of a network connected to the strategic activities of an actor in power are widely used resistance-oriented new media art practices. Understanding the characteristics of a network that is connected to the strategic activities of an actor in power, revealing them/breaking or manipulating their discourses are widely used resistance-oriented new media art practices. Artmaking styles are mostly collaborative, participatory, and experimental.
