Abstract (EN)

Schiff base is the generic name of compounds which are obtained from primary amines with the condensation of carbonyl compounds and include azomethine (imine) groups. These complexes and with their complexes have been found to be used for different purposes in different fields and to show important features. Schiff bases having biological importance are noteworthy in drug research and in various activities. Due to containing the imine functional group, Schiff bases are easily complexed with metals. Therefore quite a lot of complex work were done with Schiff bases and their substantial influences like anticancer, antibacterial, antifungal, anti - inflammatory have been investigated. In this study, a new Schiff base containing pyrimidine ring, (E)-(1-(2-hidroksi-5-metoksibenzilidenamino)-4-fenil-2-tiokso-1,2-dihidro pirimidin-5-il) (fenil) metanon, was synthesized from the condensation of the starting material, 1-amino-5-benzoyl-4-phenyl-1H-pyrimidine-2-thione, and 2-hydroxy-5-methoxybenzaldehyde. In addition, structure of this new Schiff base is explained by an elemental analysis, IR, NMR, Mass spectrometries. While Mn(II) complex was mononuclear octahedral structure, Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II) ions were obtained binuclear metal complexes. The synthesized structures of these novel compounds were elucidated with the methods like, elemental analysis, TGA/DTA, FT-IR, UV-Vis and magnetic susceptibility.
