New conservative middle class, religion and everyday life: The case of MÜSİAD in Kayseri

Religion is by any means an important issue in understanding of the social and cultural structure of society. The interconnectedness of religion with social and economic structure provides an academic field to conduct a research on. On that vein, this study focuses to what extent the principles of a belief system and market relations are intervened in everyday life experiences and forms certain attitudes among religious capital owners, conceptualised as "New Conservative Middle Class". By doing this, this study evaluates a) how Weberian approach underlines religious beliefs and principles in the field of economics, b) criticisms of the Weberian approach -in particular, made by Ülgener-, and c) the emergence process of a new economy approaches that they have taken the principles of Islam into account. For this purposes, an unprecedented emergence of Anatolian capital in Turkey and the role of MÜSİAD in this process are evaluated. By taking Bourdieu's notions into account, the current study investigates the Kayseri Branch of MÜSİAD in regard to how religious capital owners dominates the the fields that they have been part of and assesses ways in which how they reproduce their growing supremacy that shapes and reshapes themselves in the case of MÜSİAD, in Kayseri.
