Abstract (EN)
In this thesis study, we aimed to compare the glaucomatous parameters of pseudoexfoliation glaucoma and primary open-angel glaucoma of newly diagnosed patients. 32 PEG Patients with 44 eyes and 26 POAG patients with 52 eyes who have applied to Gaziantep University Medical faculty Ophthalmology clinic between April 2007-December 2009, an IOP value above 22 mmHg during routine ophthalmologic examination and who have glaucomatous visual field and optic disc changes, are studied in this thesis study. Age of patients, gender, distance and near visual acuity, intraocular pressure (IOP), iridocorneal angle width, degree of pigmentation in iridocorneal angle, central corneal thickness, color vision, cup-disc ratio, visual field findings in were prospectively investigated. There was not a significant difference between the PEG and POAG patients when we consider age, sex, CCT, CV, MD and near visual acuity as parameters. POAG patients had better visual acuity than the PEG patients when visual acuity was compared. When we compare the PEG and POAG patients from the perspective of iridocorneal angle magnitude, although the POAG patients have wider iridocorneal angle we observed that both of the groups have wide-angle. Pigmentation ratio was higher in PEG patients when the ratio of pigmentation in iridocorneal angle is compared in PEG and POAG groups. When the C/D ratio of the patients was compared, it was observed that PEG patients had a higher C/D ratio. Intraocular pressure of PEG patients was higher than the values of POAG patients. As a result, PEG patients had higher mean intraocular pressure, greater optic nerve head pit and visual field defects with respect to POAG patients. Glaucoma progressing more rapidly indicates more intraocular pressure change in patients with PEG when it is compared with POAG patients. PEG patients have a higher resistance to treatment with respect to POAG patients.Key words: Pseudoexfoliation Glaucoma, Primary Open-Angel Glaucoma, Intraocular Pressure, Visual Acuity
