Preservation of place of urban memory during the reconstruction process

The demands of society and cultural expressions shape the architecture that creates the built environment. The fact that the spaces are a means of creating memory or a warning object to be reminded makes this formatting valuable. Memory experiences that preserve the past life practices, experiences, memories of the society provide the formation of images and meanings in minds. This construction sector with space brings along loyalty and belonging to the place. Ensuring the continuity of collective memories is a sense of partnership and belonging. These meaningful bonds established between the individual or the group and the space, cities with identity carry a potential power for science. The concretization of the spaces that refer to a common past ensures that the transfer of social and cultural values to future generations is preserved, as well as the prophetic memories and finding partners. As it can be understood from here, spaces constitute the context of memory. However, the continuity of physical changes in cities interferes with loading spaces and using memory damages. Conversions need to be accumulated and comments of the past circle about the past to prevent back. In this way, it becomes possible to create cities with identities of social ages, where the sense of ownership develops. In this context, the province of Düzce, which has suffered from earthquake disasters and destructions and which is home to mixed migrations, was selected as the sampling area for the determination of memory spaces and change research. To show this purpose to determine how the destruction and post-destruction studies of change and development in the city affect the memory spaces, which are the memory spaces of the city, and where the meaning continuity or discontinuities are. The research subject is important as it is thought that it will guide the transformation applications of known memory spaces. In the study, it was aimed to reveal experimental signals for obtaining concrete results as well as simple analysis. For this purpose, in-depth interviews were made with the participants with the questionnaire study, and the changes of memory spaces inside were revealed.
