Investigation of neonatal intensive care unit working environment from the perspective of healthcare workers within the scope of occupational health and safety

As of December 31, 2022, the total population of Turkey is 85,279,553, and as of November 2020, the total workforce is 31 million 574 thousand people and the unemployment rate is 10.3%. One in every four people in the workforce is employed in the industrial sector, while approximately 60% is employed in the service sector. The high number of people working in a high-risk work environment brings the issue of Occupational Health and Safety to the forefront. The legal regulations on this issue became the Occupational Health and Safety Law in 2012. The Occupational Health and Safety Law covers all workplaces, regardless of sector and number of employees, and all employees, including civil servants, private business employees and freelancers. The Ministry of Health also organizes occupational health and safety services through 81 Community Health Centers in 64 provinces and plans to establish at least one center in all 81 provinces. Neonatal intensive care units are graded as 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th levels within the framework of physical conditions, service, equipment and personnel minimum standards determined for the treatment, care and services applied in large-scale hospitals to comply with international standards, to achieve quality standards in health and to protect the health of employees and patients. In this thesis, Neonatal intensive care units were examined in terms of occupational health and safety in terms of equipment, physical suitability, personnel adequacy and personal protective equipment.
