In this thesis, the relationship between the commonly used ground motion intensity measures and the roof displacements of the buildings has been examined comparatively and it has been revealed that which ground motion intensity measure has a more significant relationship with the roof displacement of which type of structure. In the scope of the study, 3-dimensional reinforced concrete frame building models which had been designed in accordance with a modern code, were analyzed by non-linear time history analysis method. For nonlinear analyses of the RC buildings far fault and near fault ground motion records were selected. The obtained results were evaluated in terms of statistical methods. From the analyses results, it was observed that the most appropriate ground motion intensity measures to predict the roof displacements of the structures, subjected to far and near fault ground motion records, were related to the velocity. In addition, ground motion intensity measures were much more successful at estimating the roof displacements of structures subjected to the far fault ground motions rather than those of structures subjected to the near fault ground motion records.
