Abstract (EN)
Industrialization, rapid increase in the world population and urbanization cause the resources to be exhausted rapidly and the amount of solid waste also increases. The increase in the amount of solid waste also makes waste management difficult. In addition, the rapid growth of the population leads to the intensive use of agricultural soils, which makes the soils poor in terms of organic matter. Chemicals developed as a solution to this situation seriously threaten the sustainability of agriculture and human health. One of the steps to be taken to protect the environment and human health is to convert organic wastes, which have a large share in urban solid wastes, to compost fertilizers. In this context, compost to be obtained from solid wastes will be an alternative to artificial fertilizer used in agriculture. In this way, both solid waste management will be easier and the amount of organic matter will increase in agricultural areas. Compost is also used in open green areas in cities, landscape arrangements of site settlements, greenhouses where vegetables and flowers are produced, etc. can be used in areas. In this study, Serdivan, one of the central districts of Sakarya, where the city population is dense, was chosen as a sample area and it was aimed to determine the compost potential. In determining this potential, the compost production potential was evaluated by compiling the data from the TUİK and urban waste data of the site. In addition, the compost fertilizer potential of the schools and hospital dining halls, where the organic waste amount is high, is determined. The compost fertilizer potential of the Serdivan district determined within the framework of this study will create base data for the integrated solid waste disposal facility planned to be established in the future.
