Investigating the relationship between cultural capital and perceived social support and attitudes towards old age and aging in adult individuals

This research aims to examine the relationship between cultural capital and perceived social support and attitudes towards old age and aging, and to determine whether these variables differ significantly according to various sociodemographic variables. The sample of the research consists of a total of 317 participants, 192 women and 125 men, aged 18-65, living in Turkey. Within the scope of the research, the Demographic Information Form, Cultural Capital Scale, Multidimensional Perceived Social Support Scale and Attitude Scale towards Old Age and Aging were applied to the participants. BM SPSS Statistics 25.0 program was used to analyze the data obtained as a result of the research. Spearman Correlation analysis, Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis H test, Dunn Z test were used for statistical analysis. As a result of the analyses, it was observed that there were relationships between the research variables. Additionally, it was observed that the research variables showed significant differences with sociodemographic variables. There is a weak negative correlation between the total score of the perceived social support scale and the total scores of the cultural capital and old age and attitude towards aging scales; There is a weak positive, statistically significant correlation between the total score of the cultural capital scale and the total scores of the attitude scale towards old age and aging. The findings were discussed in the light of the literature and suggestions were made for future studies.
