Abstract (EN)

In this study, it was aimed to research the relationship between attachment styles and trait anxiety level and sociotropic-autonomic personality traits and to evaluate these variables in terms of socio-demographic data of the sampling. The study was carried out on a sample of 503 randomly selected individuals aged 18 and over living in the Istanbul and the Socio-Demographic Information Form, Adult Attachment Style Scale, State - Trait Anxiety Inventory and Beck Sociotropy and Autonomy Scale were applied to sampling during data collection process. Statistical analysis of the data obtained by means of data collection tools was done by using SPSS 25 program, 95% reliability level was based on in the data analysis. In the comparison of quantitative data, "The Mann Withney U" test was used to analyse the difference between the two non-parametric groups. "The Kruskal Wallis" test was used to compare the parameters between groups in the case of more than nonparametric two groups. The relationship between dependent and independent variables of the study was tested by "Spearman" correlation analysis. The effect of the scales on each other was tested by multiple linear regression. As a result of the findings; it was identified that attachment styles in adulthood was related with trait anxiety and there was a negative correlation between trait anxiety and secure attachment and a positive relationship with avoidant and anxious attachment. When the effect of attachment styles on trait anxiety was examined, it was seen that secure attachment, avoidant attachment, anxious attachment scores significantly predict trait anxiety and explain 8% of total variance of trait anxiety. On evaluating to the relationship between attachment and sociotropic-autonomic personality traits; while there was a negative correlation between secure attachment and sociotropic-autonomic personality traits, it was identified that avoidant and anxious attachment and sociotropic - autonomic personality traits showed a positive relationship. While the sociotropy scale was positively related to the anxious attachment scale, autonomy scale was found to be positively correlated with the secure attachment scale and the negative and avoidant attachment scale. When look at the relationship between sociotropy-autonomic personality with trait anxiety, it is seen that trait anxiety is positively related with sociotropy - autonomy. As sociotropy and autonomy scores increase, the level of trait anxiety increases as well. When the demographic data of the participants were examined according to the research variables; in the first 3 years of life, the group, who had no separation with their parents, showed more secure attachment than the group that had a separation. It was observed that growing children in families with divorced or parental deaths received higher anxious attachment scores. The group who had a love of parents during childhood or youth showed significantly higher secure attachment than the group who did not, while non-loved groups showed high avoidant and anxious attachment compared to those who were loved. When the violence factor was evaluated, a negative correlation was identified between secure attachment and father violence. On the other hand, when the relationship between parents' educational level and attachment was examined, it was found that both mother and father's education level and secure attachment were positively related. There is an increase in the level of anxious attachment, as due to the decrease in the education level of the father. Married people have higher secure attachment scores than single or divorced individuals, while single or divorced people have higher avoidant and anxious attachment scores than married people. When compared with people living with family, friends and relatives and living with their spouses, it was determined that people living with their spouses had higher secure attachment scores. However, it was observed that the groups living with their family, mother, friend and close relative received higher anxious attachment scores than who living with their spouses. The findings show that attachment styles in adulthood are related to trait anxiety and sociotropic-autonomic personality dimensions. At the same time, the examination of the relationship between trait anxiety and sociotropy-autonomy gave an opportunity to evaluate these three variables together and the role of attachment in personality structures, relationship styles in adulthood and the role on formation of psychopathology were investigated and it was aimed to contribute to the literature.
