Examination of the relationship between traumatic experiences, emotional eating and contact with nature in adults

This study aimed to examine the relationship between traumatic experiences, emotional eating and contact with nature in adults. A total of 447 adults (284 women and 163 men) who accessed the online measurement tools participated in the study. The participants were implemented the Personal Information Form, the Multidimensional Trauma Scale (ÇBTÖ), which is a combination of two scales, the Childhood Trauma Scale (ÇÇTÖ) and the Posttraumatic Symptoms Scale (TSBÖ), the Turkish Emotional Eating Scale (DYÖ) and the Contact with Nature Information Form. According to the results of the study, significant positive relationships were found between childhood traumatic experiences and posttraumatic symptoms and emotional eating behavior. Significant differences were found between posttraumatic symptoms and responses to the contact with nature items. Significant differences were found between eating in situations of tension and lack of self-control, which are sub-dimensions of the Emotional Eating Scale, and the most frequent contact with green areas item which is the item of the Contact with Nature Information Form. As a result, it was observed that there were significant relationships between traumatic experiences and posttraumatic symptoms and emotional eating, and there was a significant difference between posttraumatic symptoms and contact with nature items. There was a significant difference between emotional eating and only one of the contact with nature form items.
