Determination of patient safety attitudes of intensive care nurses

This descriptive study was carried out in intensive care units of Adana City Training and Research Hospital in order to determine patient safety attitudes of nurses working in intensive care. 204 nurse which were determined by performing sampling power analysis were included. In the study, Personal Information Form prepared by the researcher and Patient Safety Attitude Scale developed by Sexton et al. In 2006 and adapted to Turkish in 2010 by Baykal et al. SPSS 23.0 package program was used for statistical analysis of the data in the study. In the evaluation of the data, Mann Whitney U, Kruskal Wallis, Bonferroni tests were analyzed. It was determined that the average age of the nurses participating in the study was 30.266.56 years, 62.3% of them were women and 74.5% of them were undergraduate. Patient safety attitude total scale mean score of nurses is 139.65 ± 18.54, and sub-dimension mean score is 33.91 ± 8.95, teamwork 30.14 ± 6.96, safety climate 12.4 ± 3.39 management understanding was found to be 22.57 ± 3.41, definition of stress as 16.82 ± 1.88, and working conditions as 23.78 ± 2.70. In the study, the reliability coefficient of the scale was found to be 0.881, and it was found to be quite reliable in the sub-dimensions of job satisfaction, teamwork, safety climate, management understanding, definition of stress and working conditions. As a result of the study, female nurses to male nurses; those who are married compared to singles; According to those who did not report medical errors; It was concluded that they were more dominant in defining stress and working conditions. Those who do not receive patient safety training; Those who do not receive adequate training within the institution; It was determined that those who did not report had a higher average in the sub-dimensions of the scale of teamwork, safety climate and management understanding compared to those who did.
