Investigation of the relationship between parental attitudes and child's spiritual adaptation status in poor families

Variables such as the educational status, age, marital status, number of siblings, chronic illness and parental attitude of the parents can affect the mental adaptation status of the children. Poverty can also negatively affect children, especially families. When the structure of poor families is examined, it is seen that there are variables such as low education level, crowded family members, low household income, having chronic illness, and unemployment. With its characteristic structure, poverty can negatively affect the mental adaptation of children; can shape parents' attitudes. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between parents' attitudes and mental adjustment in poor families. The population of the study consists of families with children attending primary school in the family living in Keçiören district and benefiting from social benefits. 120 families selected by simple random sampling method from the universe constitute the sample of the research. Hacettepe Spiritual Adaptation Scale was used to measure the mental harmony levels of the children of the participants, and the Family Life and Child Rearing Attitude Scale was used to measure the parents' attitudes of the participants. The dependent variable of the study is Hacettepe Spiritual Adaptation Scale score, and its independent variable is the Family Evaluation Scale score. Correlation analysis was carried out to determine the effect of parents' attitude on children's mental adjustment. According to the correlation result, while there was a positive difference between the mental adaptation of the children and the overprotective maternal attitude, the rejection of the role of housewife, the attitude towards parental attitude and negative discipline showed a negative difference with the attitude towards parents.
