Abstract (EN)

This study examines the crucial role of management accounting practices in improving operational risk management in commercial banks. It explores how these practices aid in the identification, assessment, monitoring, and mitigation of operational risks, thereby strengthening the banks' resilience and strategic decision-making. The research analyses various management accounting techniques, including variance analysis, financial ratio analysis, cost-benefit analysis, and scenario planning, and their roles in operational risk management. The findings demonstrate that analytical procedures are essential for risk identification, providing quantitative insights that highlight deviations and potential risk areas. To assess risks, techniques such as cost-benefit analysis and scenario planning are useful in evaluating the financial implications and likelihood of identified risks. Monitoring can be achieved through budgetary control and performance measurement systems, which enable early detection of risk indicators. In the field of risk mitigation, strategic management accounting practices such as strategic costing and transfer pricing aid in making crucial decisions about resource allocation and operational adjustments. Additionally, this study highlights the importance of integrating financial and non-financial data through management accounting systems. This integration enables a comprehensive approach to operational risk management, improving the effectiveness of risk identification, assessment, monitoring, and mitigation processes. The research concludes that management accounting practices are not only crucial for operational risk management but also significantly contribute to the strategic decision-making process within commercial banks. By incorporating these practices into the framework for managing operational risks, banks can adopt a more resilient and adaptable approach to risk management. This, in turn, will help them achieve their organizational goals and ensure sustainable performance in the demanding financial landscape.
