Women roles and musical features in Yozgat region female mouth folk songs

Abstract (EN)

It is known that folk songs, one of our oral literature products, contain data about the society and individuals who are the producers. In this thesis, what the social roles of women are and how these roles are reflected in the female mouth folk songs of the Yozgat region are revealed by examining and interpreting the texts of the folk songs texts. In addition, the melodies of the women's folk songs of the Yozgat region were examined and the musical characteristics of the folk songs were revealed. This study, which is limited to female mouth folk songs of the Yozgat region, was deemed necessary and important to draw attention to the social role of women and to create healthier societies with the change they will make in their role, taking into account the influence of women in the upbringing of individuals who make up the society and thus in shaping the society. In the first part of the study, which consists of five parts, the problem situation of the study, sub-problems, the aim of the research, the importance of the research, and the limitations of the research are included. In the second part, information about the geographical location and historical background of the Yozgat region, the definition of Turkish folk music and folk song, and the folk music culture of the Yozgat region are given. In order to support the infrastructure of this study on women, titles of women in history, women in Turkish history and culture, gender and gender roles, Turkish women in terms of gender, and women in folk songs are included in this section. In the third part, the method of the research is given. This section gives information about the research model, universe and sampling, data collection tools, and data analysis. In this study with discourse analysis model using qualitative research method, document analysis technique in data collection; Theme analysis, descriptive analysis, and content analysis were used to analyze the data. Thematic and descriptive analysis was used to understand the qualitative data in the research, and content analysis was used to make in-depth analysis and interpretation. Results, which constitute the main part of the research, are included in the fourth section. In this section, in the female mouth folk songs of the Yozgat region, the roles (duties) given to women by the woman herself and the society, the behaviors appropriate to these roles, the emotional state of the woman in this role, and the position of the woman in the society are revealed by interpreting the lyrics of the folk songs. The musical and rhythmic characteristics of the analyzed female mouth folk songs are also discussed in this section. In the fifth chapter, conclusions and recommendations are given. Among the analyzed Yozgat region folk songs, 78 female mouth folk songs were identified. In these folk songs, it has been seen that the woman reflects thirteen roles as "lover/partner", "bride/bride girl", "mother", "young girl", "daughter", "mother-in-law", "wife/married woman", "fellow wife", "sister", "widower", "fiancee", "wife's sister", and "husband's sister". It has been concluded that in the folk songs sung in these roles, there is information that women are the most supervised and controlled part of the society, their rights are limited, decisions are made on their behalf by someone else, and they are seen as second-class citizens compared to men. It has also been observed that the female mouth folk songs discussed in this study mostly contain the Hüseyni and Uşşak tune scales, and there are few folk songs containing other tune scales. It has been determined that it generally has a 4/4 or 2/4 structure in terms of rhythm, and melodies with lame rhythms are less common.
