Investigation of the effects of electric fields generated by high voltage on bone cancer

Abstract (EN)

The effects of high-voltage electric fields on patients with bone cancer are an important and up-to-date issue to be investigated. In this study, an experimental system capable of applying electric fields on osteosarcoma cell culture was established and the effects of AC / DC were investigated. In accordance with this purpose, experimental system that can adjust to suitable conditions at which cells can live without degredation has been realized and planar electrode system were designed to produce a uniform electric field. The 14 samples osteosarcoma cell line in which the reviews were made were divided into 4 groups which are control group, first group, second group and third group. Samples of first and second group were subjected to 50 Hz sinusoidal electric field for 10 minutes at different electric field intensities. The examination of first group was conducted after 24 hours and the examination of second group was conducted after 48 hours. DC electric fields were applied to samples of third group for 10 minutes and different electric field intensities and third group was examined after 48 hours. According to the application results, the osteosarcoma cell counts in the experimental groups were significantly higher than the osteosarcoma cell counts in the control group (p<0.05). It has also been observed that the DC electric field is more effective than the 50 Hz sinusoidal electric field in increasing the number of osteosarcoma cells. As a result of this, it has been concluded that certain AC and DC electric fields may increase the rate of spread of the bone cancer disease. KEYWORDS: Electric field, Bone cancer, Cell culture
