Özet (EN)
Object: Assesment of serum S100B values' additional contributions to the current scan techniques in the diagnostic and postoperative follow-up stages of high grade glial tumors and assesment of availability of serum S100B protein values as a tumor marker or a prognostic factor for the high grade glial tumors. Material-methods: 14 patients who were operated with high grade glial tumor diagnosis in the neurosurgery clinic between December 2013 – August 2014 and a control group consisting of 14 healthy individuals are enrolled to the study. Blood samples are taken from the patient group 3 times as preoperative, postoperative 1. day and 5. day and from the control group once. Detailed neurological examinations of the patient group are evaluated and determined whether neurological deficit occured or not. Serum S100B protein values are worked and tumor volumes of the patients are measured with the scan techniques. Preoperative and postoperative serum S100B values are compared. Findings: When serum S100B values of patient and control groups are compared, S100B values of the patient group are found significantly higher. (p<0,05) In the assesment of the patient group, statistically significant relation between development of the neurological deficits and rise of S100B values is determined. (p<0,05) When the patients' tumor volumes and serum S100B values are compared, statistically significant relation between tumor values and serum S100B values isn't determined. (p>0,05) But a significant reduction of S100B values is determined in the postoperative 5. day measurements of the patients in whom total resection were performed. (p<0,05) Conclusion: A significant correlation isn't determined as the assesment of tumor volumes and serum S100B values. However rise of the serum S100B values in the high grade glioma patients is defined but a definitive conclusion isn't determined because of the false negative values and the minority of the patient group (n=14). We think that more significant and directive conclusions shall be defined with the more comprehensive studies in the oncoming periods. Keywords: Glioblastoma multiforme, Anaplastic astrocytoma, S100B
