Abstract (EN)

In this thesis, the determination of how the similes and metaphors have been used in the Poetry of Yunus Emre and how they have been handled in rhetoric books. With this in mind, the Poetry of Yunus Emre, which has been prepared by Mustafa Tatçı and published by the H publication, has been taken into consideration. Moreover, what kind of similes and metaphors have been used and the frequency of the similes and metaphors used in this book have been intended to be found. Therefore, 417 poems (3449 couplets) in this book have been analyzed and, at the same time, the similes and metaphors used in this book have been determined. It has been determined that ?elaborate simile?, ?concise simile?, ?mürsel simile?, ?müekked simile? and ?eloquent simile? have all been used in this book. In addition to these kinds used in the book, ?open? and ?closed? metaphors have been used in this book. It has been noticed that ?figurative simile? was used in some of Yunus Emre?s poems all way through and ?figuartive metaphor? in some of his poems, so it has been noticed that two titles can be created for these concepts. As a result, it has been observed that some of the definitions given in literature and theory books about the similes and metaphors seem to be inadequate and so some of the definitions need to be revised again. It has been observed that the ?concise simile? was used least and ?eloquent simile was used mostly in The Poetry of Yunus Emre. Moreover, it has been determined that the ?closed metaphor? was used more in comparison to ?open metaphor?. Yunus Emre seems to be expert at transfering the figures in his mind with great representations into his poetry.
