Özet (EN)

The aim of this project is determination of acute, chronic and combined effects of swimming on pulmonary functions and respiratory muscles. For this purpose, 30 young male (15 experimental group, and 15 controls) participated in this project. Experimental group participated in 8-week swimming training program and performed one day after and before of 8-week, 100m swimming performance. Immediately before and after swimming performance for experimental group, before and after of 8-week period for control group, pulmonary functions and respiratory muscle strength were measured. Obtained data were analyzed with Repeated Measures One Way ANOVA, LSD, Independent Sample T test and Paired Sample T tests. Swimming has negative acute effect on respiratory muscle strength and pulmonary functions (p<0.05), and has positive chronic effect on respiratory muscle strength and pulmonary functions (p<0.05). Negative acute effects were decreased combine effect of chronic and acute effects of swimming on respiratory muscle strength and pulmonary functions (p<0.05). As a result, it could be said that swimming has negative acute effects, positive chronic and combine effects on respiratory muscle strength and pulmonary functions. Key words: Swimming, Training, Respiratory
