The effect of land and water based strenght training on athletic performance among swimmers

Abstract (EN)
Aim: This study aims to between the ages of 12-14 in swimmers addition to swimming training, it reveal the effects of strength training on land and water on physical performance and swimming performance. Methods: Materials and Methods: A total of 28 competitive swimmers between the ages of 12-14 which training in Manisa Province, participated in our research. Swimmers are divided into 3 groups as water land and control. In addition to swimming training, the water group did strength training in water and the land group did strength training on land, and the control group did only swimming training 3 days a week for 8 weeks. During the 8-week period, 3 measurements were taken as pre-test, intermediate and post-test. On land group, vertical jump, 30 sec sit up, 30 sec push up, hand grip, back and leg strength measurements tested. In water group, 25, 50, 100m freestyle stroke rate and stroke length tests were performed with swimming. Non-parametric Mann Whitney U (MWU) Test, Friedman Test and Kruskal Wallis H test statistics were used for statistical analysis. Results: According to the statistical analysis results; in the back and leg strength of the water and land group, in the right hand grip strength; in the left hand grip strength of the control group; a significant difference was found in the development of the water group in the measurement and stroke ratio of the 25 and 50m free swimming performances of the water and control groups (p<0.05). There were significant differences in back strength between the control and land groups also in the 25 and 50m free swimming time results between the control and water groups (p<0.05). Conclusion: The research is observed that strength training in water has positive effects on swimming time and some strength parameters and strength training on land has positive effects on some strength parameters in results .
