Zerzevan Castle arrowheads

The arrowheads, one of the attack vehicles used fighting, instruction and in order to hunting from Upper Paleolithic period to the era of modern weapons, have been produced and used extensively throughout history with different materials and construction techniques. Among the military equipment, the arrowheads in the attack vehicles have been produced and used most of the distance weapons. It gives informations about the political, military and cultural relations of the period by being unearthed with archaeological excavations in the places where they were thrown during the war and then they were not used and carried out in places where military events took place. Zerzevan Castle, which is the basic material of master thesis, it is one the garrisons in the fight among Parth / Sassani and Rome. 95 iron arrowheads obtained during the excavations made in the settlement between 2014-2018 have been examined. From the data obtained in the light of archaeological studies, the evaluation, examination and interpretation of the arrowheads were made. The arrowheads of different types and sizes from the first day of the excavation of Zerzevan Castle became the main factor for this study. The arrowheads obtained in the studies are from iron material and are dated to certain periods according to the finds. In the framework of studies and reviews, the arrow tips in the settlements were compared with the similar ones published in the sources and dating of the sections in the catalogues was also done with the help of the matching information in the contacts. The arrowheads at Zerzevan Castle were the arrowheads belonging to the two dominant powers during the survey with the similar ones in the areas where both Rome and Sasani were dominant. Dating was made by taking into consideration the periods of similar dates or the similar finds at the same level. Together with this thesis, the arrowheads uncovered during the Zerzevan Castle excavation were asked for solutions such as terminology, dating and function.
