Examination transition process into the work life of individuals with intellectual disabilities

The aim of this research is to determine what teachers and school principals know, what they do, their responsibilities, the problems they faced, and solution suggestions in the transition process into work life of individuals with intellectual disabilities. The research data were collected from 17 vocational teachers and 10 school principals working at the Special Education Job Application Centers and Special Education Vocational Training Centers in Bolu and Düzce in the academic year of 2016-2017. Qualitative research approaches is used in this research. Participants' knowledge of the transition process, their work, responsibilities, problems they faced, and the solution suggestions were derived from semi-structured interview questions and checklist. Comparisons were made using interview questions and control list data, and tried to obtain in-depth information. As a result of the research, it has been reached that vocational teachers and school principals do not have any information about transition, transition service plan and do not have any work in this field. It has been found that the teachers and school principals meet with problems such as not being able to get into business life, failure to perform professional practice, material shortage, lack of cooperation. The findings have been discussed in the related literature and it has been reached that the transition service plans should be prepared in the transition process into work life of individuals with intellectual disabilities.
