The effects of core stabilization exercises on respiratory functions, trunk muscle endurance and postural stabilization in individuals taking basic acting education

The aim of the study is to investigate the effects of a 8-week, core stabilization exercise program on respiratory functions, muscle trunk endurance and postural stabilization in individuals taking basic acting education. The study included 31 volunteer healthy actor candidate (18F, 13M; 27.17±6.02 years) who are taking basic acting education at DC Kozmos Art Academy between June 2020 - October 2020. The respiratory functions were assessed by the spirometer. Trunk muscle endurance was assessed by Fleksor Trunk Endurance Test (FTET), Biering Sorenson Test (BST) and Lateral Bridge Test (LBT). Postural stabilization was evaluated by Flamingo Balance Test (FBT) and Y Balance Test (YBT). The participants were randomly divided into two groups as Exercise Group (EG) (n=15) and Control Group (CG) (n=16). Both people in EG and CG were taken diaphragmatic training program according to BAE. The core stabilization exercise program was administered for EG, twice a week, 45 minutes a day and for a 8-week duration while CG was only evaluated in the begginning and at the end of the study. According to the main results of this study comparing two groups, EG and CG showed greater improvement in FEV1, FVC and PEF parameters, (p<0.05 for both EG and CG). EG showed statistically difference in FTET, BST and LBT while CG had improvement in only LBT(P<0.05). In FBT and YBT, EG had significant improvement while CG had only enhancement in right anterior and posteromedial side in YBT. Consistent with the hypothesis, our findings suggest that the core stabilization exercises were effective to improve respiratory functions, trunk muscle endurance and postural stabilization in individuals taking basic acting education. The effects of connective tissue manipulation on balance and proprioception among healthy individuals

Connective Tissue Manipulation (CTM) is a type of manual therapy used in different problems. Despite the well-known effects of CTM, its effects on proprioception and balance have not been investigated as far as, we know. The aim of the study to investigate the effects of CTM on balance and proprioception among healthy individuals. 40 volunteers studying in Bahcesehir University were divided into exercise and study (CTM with exercise) groups equally. Biodex Balance System was used for evaluation of static and dynamic balance. The cervical proprioception was measured by using a cervical range of motion (CROM) device while lumbar proprioception was measured by StabilizerTM Pressure Biofeedback Unit. Additionally, at the beginnig and end of the study, heart rate and blood pressure were measured by M3 Comfort Digital blood Pressure Monitor. Both study and exercise groups were instructed to perform home exercises for 2 sessions in a week for 6 weeks (12 sessions in total). Additionally, CTM was applied to the volunteers in study group for 6 weeks, 2 sessions in a week. At the end of the study, a significant difference between heart rate or blood pressure measurements of the groups cannot be found. On the other hand, a significant difference between groups were found in cervical flexion with (p≤0,01) and without (p≤0,05) vision and lumbar proprioception with and without vision (p≤0,01). Since the "overall" scores are more reliable than the "anteroposterior" and "mediolateral" scores of the Biodex Balance System, intergroup comparison of the groups were interpreted according to the overall scores. Improvement in static and dynamic balance on right foot (p≤0,01), bilateral dynamic balance (p≤0,05), and static balance on left foot (p≤0,01) were found significant between the groups. On the other hand, when all scores (overall, anteroposterior, mediolateral) were examined, pre-and-post measurements of both dynamic and static balance were found significant (p≤0,05) in study, while exercise group showed a significant improvement mostly in dynamic balance scores. Considering all of these, we believe that the application of CTM with exercise improves proprioception and balance, especially static balance, in healthy subjects. Further studies are needed to be done with larger groups and addition of a control group to the study will increase the strength of the study. The impact of FIFA 11+ exercise program on isokinetic muscle strength and balance on adolescent amateur soccer players

This study was carried out for a 9 weeks period in order to apply F 11+ football injury prevention program on an adolescent age group amateur football team and to enquire the impacts of it on muscle strength and balance. The footballers of a team from Turkey's Super Amateur League (N = 24) were included in the research. F 11+ exercise program was conducted for the study group for 9 weeks in addition to the routine training program. Control group continued routine program. Isokinetic and balance (SEBT) evaluations of the footballers were made before and after training. As a result of our study, there were not any differences between the groups in terms of age, body weight, height, body mass index values (p> 0.05). In the isokinetic evaluation, the right H / Q ratio at the 60 ° / sec was significantly higher in the control group than the study group (p <0.05) however, no difference was found between the groups after the training (p>0,05). After the training, at the 240 °/ sec, only the left quadriceps peak torque value of the study group was significantly higher than the other group (p <0.05). In isokinetic evaluations, in the comparison of the within groups in before and after training, there were not any significant differences in the other parameters while a difference was found in the right hamstring peak torque value of the study group at the 60 ° / sec and in the ratio of hamstring peak torque value and body weight (p>0,05). As a result of the SEBT, in the post-training comparisons of the groups, study group was found to be significantly higher (p<0,05) in the right anteromedial aspect whereas there were not any differences between the groups in the other aspects (p<0,05) In SEBT evaluation, in the comparisons of the within groups before and after training, there was a significant difference in almost all aspects in the study group (p <0.05) while there were not any differences in the improvement in the control group (p> 0.05). Consequently, it was understood that F 11+ exercise program was singly not effective in muscle strength development in adolescent amateur footballers but it was effective in SEBT balance assessment in some ways. We are of the opinion that this training program will guide the experts who work with amateur footballers lacking a regular training program.

Effects of isometric exercise on delayed onset muscle soreness

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of isometric exercise on delayed muscle pain. Forty people participated in the study. Participants were selected from Yeditepe University Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Department students on a voluntary basis. Participants who were eligible to participate in the study according to inclusion and exclusion criteria were divided into two groups as isometric exercise group and control group by lot. In order to cause delayed onset muscle soreness, an exercise program used in the literature was applied. The group selected for the isometric exercise was taught by the physiotherapist about the isometric exercise program they will perform throughout the process. Muscle soreness, pressure pain threshold, edema, range of motion and muscle strength were evaluated before, immediately after exercise, on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th days. As a result we found that, isometric exercise reduced soreness on day 1 (p=0.000) and day 3 (p=0.000), and improvement in pressure pain threshold was faster in isometric exercise group, pressure pain threshold was higher in the isometric exercise group on day 3 (p=0.050), increase in range of motion was found to be higher in the isometric exercise group from Day 3 to Day 5 (p=0.025).. In the other parameters, there was no difference between the isometric exercise group and the control group.

Investigation of changes in flexibility and lung capacity among girls beginner synchronized swimming and free style swimming between ages of 6-9

The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of swimming on lung capacity and assess the effect of different dry land training in synchronized swimmers on flexibility in girls. The participants were either Synchronized swimmers (SG) (n=12) or Freestyle swimmers (FG) (n=12). The groups were separated according to their swimming style.The study included 24 beginner swimmers (24F;6-9ages)who continue to different swimming clubs in Istanbul, Turkey between January 2019 and April 2019 for three months from beginning evaluation. Pulmonary functions of all the swimmers were evaluated by spirometry, Forced Vital Capacity (FVC) and Forced Expiratuar Volume (FEV1). Flexibility were assessed by Sit and Reach test. In this study, IBM SPSS Statistics 22 for statistical analysis (SPSS IBM, Turkey) programs were used. There was no statistically significant difference between the values FVC and FEV1 of synchronized and freestyle swimmers before and after (p> 0.05). And also that showed no statistically significant changes between the groups in terms of the amount of increase seen in the last flexibility levels compared to the first flexibility levels (p> 0.05). But in both groups there was a significiant difference between the previous and the last evaluation. . As a result of this study if there will be a longer-term study with more participants, more meaningful results can be achieved. Geriatrik bireylerde fiziksel aktivite düzeyi ile bilişsel durum arasindaki ilişki

Aging tells about the continuation of old age, physiological and mental developments and changes in individuals in later life. According to the report published by the United Nations (UN), old age begins to be 65 in chronological order. In the definition of the World Health Organization (WHO), individuals aged 70 and over are considered as "elderly". The old age process is a process that needs to be handled in more than one (physical, psychological and social) dimension. Aging brings physical, social and mental problems. Changes in cognitive functions are important problems that make adaptation to life difficult. This study was conducted to investigate whether there is a relationship between the physical activity levels and cognitive status of elderly individuals. It was performed with individuals who were living in the Maltepe Residence of Darüşşafaka Society and were sociodemographically similar. 56 geriatric individuals with Mini mental test results of 18 and above and who did not have a neurological or orthopedic disability to prevent performing Senior Fitness test participated in the study. Mini mental test (SMMT) and physical activity levels were evaluated by Senior Fitness Test (PFT) with 7 subheadings. Sociodemographic characteristics such as age and educational level of the cases were similar (p> 0.05). There was no significant difference between time up and go (TUG) and 6 minutes walk test mini mental test (p> 0.05). In the study, there was no significant difference between the time up and go and six-minute walk tests values and mini-mental test. (p <0.05). As a result, there was a positive relationship between the cognitive status of the geriatric individuals and their level of being active, and the individuals should be active in their old age relationships. According to the results of our study, individuals should adopt an active lifestyle in order to maintain their cognitive levels and to have a higher quality old age process. Investigation of the effects of manual therapy techniques on pain and functionality in individuals with shoulder subacromial impingement syndrome

This study was carried out with 34 patients with subacromial impingement syndrome (SIS) to investigate the effect of manual therapy techniques on pain and functionality in individuals with shoulder subacromial impingement syndrome. Patients were divided into two groups as conservative treatment (CT) group and mulligan mobilization (MM) group. Hot pack, TENS, Codman exercises, range of motion and strengthening exercises were applied to 17 patients to be included in the conservative treatment group. Mulligan mobilization (mobilization with movement / MWM) was applied to 17 patients to be included in the mulligan mobilization (MM) group in addition to the treatment applied in the conservative treatment group. Patients were included in physical therapy and rehabilitation program for a total of 14 sessions 3 times a week. Patients were evaluated for pain (Visual Analog Scale), range of motion (goniometer), muscle strength (manual muscle test) and functionality (DASH) immediately before and after treatment. The data were analyzed by using statistical version 22.0 SPSS. As a result of the evaluations, it was determined that both treatment methods were effective in decreasing the symptoms of patients. There was a significant difference in favor of MM group who applied MWM in postoperative night pain, shoulder flexion, abduction, internal rotation, external rotation muscle strength assessments (p<0.05). There were no statistically significant differences between the two groups in terms of other pain, range of motion, and DASH score assessments (p>0.05). When the difference between the values before and after treatment is examined night pain, activity pain, passive flexion and active internal rotation parameters have been found significant difference in favor of MM group applied MWM (p<0.05). In conclusion, in patients with SIS, we think that the combined use of MWM technique with conservative treatment may provide more effective results in decreasing pain, increasing range of motion, muscle strength and functional activity. Serebral palsili olgularda duyu bütünleme terapisinin olguların denge ve bilişsel düzeyine etkisi

Bu çalışmanın amacı, Serebral Palsi (SP)'li çocuklarda uygulanan duyu bütünleme terapisinin çocuğun dengesi,fonksiyonel bağımsızlık seviyesi, fonksiyonel mobilitesi, duyusal işleme yetenekleri ve kognitif fonksiyon değişkenleri üzerine etkisini araştırmaktır.Çalışmaya rehabilitasyon merkezine kayıtlı 22 Serebral Palsi tanılı çocuk dahil edildi.Çalışma grubu (2 K&9E ; 7.3 ± 1.7 yıl) ve kontrol grubu (4K&7E ; 8.3 ± 1.4 yıl ) olarak randomize olacak şekilde ikiye ayrıldı. Katılımcıların sosyodemografik özellikleri yapılandırılmış bir anket kullanılarak sorgulandı.Dengeleri Pediatrik Berg Denge Skalası ile, fonksiyonel mobilite ve çeviklikleri zamanlı kalk ve yürü testi ile değerlendirildi.Olguların günlük yaşamlarında ki fonksiyonel bağımsızlık seviyesi WeeFIM ile değerlendirildi.Duyu Profili, duyusal işleme yeteneklerini değerlendirmek için kullanıldı.Bilişsel becerileri değerlendirmek için DOTCA-Ch kullanıldı.Kontrol grubuna denge koordinasyon egzersizleri ağırlıklı fizyoterapi programı (1 gün/hafta 45dk) uygulanırken çalışma grubuna kontrol grubundan ayrı olarak bireyselleştirilmiş duyu bütünleme terapisi (1 gün/hafta 45 dk) on iki hafta boyunca uygulandı.Çalışma sonucunda her iki grubun değerlerinde gelişme olduğu bulundu.Gruplar karşılaştırıldığında, iki grup arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir fark bulunmamasına rağmen (p˃0,05) duyu bütünleme terapisi alan grup klinik olarak Berg denge testi ve zamanlı kalk ve yürü testinde daha iyi sonuçlar elde etti..WeeFIM, DOTCA-Ch tüm alt basamaklarında ve Duyu Profili (duyusal girdi arama, duygusal tepki,dikkatsizlik, duyu hassasiyet puanları ve algısal ince motor) skorlarında ise iki grup arasında anlamlı fark (p˂0,05) bulundu.Hipotez ile uyumlu olarak, duyu bütünleme terapisi ve denge koordinasyon egzersizleri serebral palsili olgularda denge, fonksiyonel mobilite, fonksiyonel bağımsızlık seviyesi, duyusal işleme yetenekleri ve bilişsel fonksiyon seviyelerine katkı sağladığını tespit etmiş olduk.

The relationship between kinesiophobia and physical activity in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis patients with cheneau brace at early and late stage

We included 60 individuals who aged between 10 and 16 years old are followed by Formed Orthosis and Prothesis Center to investigate the kinesiophobia and physical activity level and detect the relationship between these factors depending on the duration of brace treatment in individuals with Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS). Participants were divided into two groups: early stage; the individuals who were under brace treatment for 1-4 months named as Group 1 and late stage; the individuals who were under brace treatmentfor8-18 months named as Group 2. Tampa Kinesiophobia Questionnaire, International Physical Activity Questionnaire-Short Form (IPAQ-SF) and the scoliosis evaluation form created by ourselves thatcontains Walter Reed Visual Assessment Scale (WRVAS) was performed for evaluating the perceived body image. It also contains clinical parameters too.Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) Windows Version 22.0 was used for analyzing the variables. Significant level was accepted with the p value of less than 0,05 (p<0,05).A significant difference was found in IPAQscore between the groups (p<0,05).There was a statistically significant difference between groups in the Tampa Score. (p<0,05).There was no significant difference in perceived body image between groups. (p>0,05). A relationship was foundin Group 1 between the monthly in-brace time and Tampa score. (p<0,05) In addition; there was also a relationship in Group 1 between the daily in-brace time and Tampa score (p<0,05). The relationship was found in Group 1 between the IPAQ score and Kinesiophobia-Tampa score (p<0,05) even so no relationshipin Group 2 was found between them(p>0,05).Considering all of these, it is found that with the increasing duration of brace treatment, physical activity level decreases. In addition, kinesiophobia level rises with the duration of daily and monthly in-brace time in the patients who are at the early stage of their brace treatment and kinesiophobia level is in relationship with decreased physical activity level in these patients. Fonksiyonel ayak bileği instabilitesi olan adölesan voleybolcularda farklı bantlama uygulamalarının fonksiyonel performansa etkisi

Bu çalışmanın amacı fonksiyonel ayak bileği instabilitesi olan adölesan voleybolcularda farklı bantlama ( kinezyolojik bant ve dinamik bant ) uygulamalarının fonksiyonel performanslarına etkisini incelemektir. Sporculara Cumberland Ankle Instability Tool anketi uygulanmış, 27 ve altında puan alanlar çalışmaya çağrılmıştır. Yaş ortalaması 13,49±2,1 olan 29 sporcu dahil olmuştur. Tüm sporculara uygulamalar yapılmadan önce fonksiyonel performans testleri ( Single Leg Hop Test, Triple Hop Test, Crossover Hop Test, 6 m. Hop Time Test) uygulanmış ve sonuçlara göre kontrol grubu ve bantlama grupları oluşturulmuştur. Dinamik bant ve kinezyolojik bant gruplarına bantlama uygulandıktan hemen sonra fonksiyonel performans testleri tüm gruplarda tekrarlanmıştır. Dinamik bantlama ve kinezyolojik bantlama grupları ile kontrol grubu arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı fark bulunamadı (p>0,05). Bantlama öncesi ve bantlama sonrası değerler karşılaştırıldığında istatiksel olarak anlamlı fark bulunamadı (p>0,05). Sonuç olarak, uygulanan bantlamaların fonksiyonel ayak bileği instabilitesi olan voleybolcuların fonksiyonel performansına etkisi olmadığı söylenebilir. Bantlamanın yaralanma geçirmiş sporcularda fonksiyonel performansa etkisini inceleyen daha fazla çalışma yapılmasını önerebiliriz.

The acute effect of proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation on cervical range of motion, strength and proprioception

Proprioception is the ability to sense the information raised from the musculoskeletal system regarding the movement and position of body part in space. Proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) is a treatment approach that develops and restores proper functioning of joints and related structure by using neurological reflexes. The aim of this study was to investigate the acute influence of PNF on cervical proprioception, range of motion (ROM) and strength in healthy population, 104 participants were randomly assigned to three groups, 1.PNF stretching, 2. PNF Patterns and 3. Control group. Cervical proprioception and ROM were measured using cervical ROM device while muscle strength measured using a myometer device. Measurements were taken before and after intervention, the intervention was done once, PNF stretching was done using contract-relax-antagonist-contract (CRAC) technique, PNF patterns were performed using Dynamic of reversals technique, the control group received only passive ROM without causing any stretch. The between the groups analysis showed significant difference only in left rotation muscles strength (p=0.006) for PNF stretching and PNF pattern over the control group, while the within group analysis showed significant difference for PNF stretching group in extension proprioception and right rotation ROM (p≤0.05). For PNF patterns group extension, right rotation, right side bending and left side bending proprioception (p≤0.05), extension and right rotation ROM (p≤0.05), right and left rotation muscles strength (p≤0.05).for the control group flexion, extension, right rotation and right side bending proprioception (p≤0.05), extension, left and right side bending ROM (p≤0.05). PNF stretching showed the least influence on all outcome measures, while the results of PNF pattern group indicating that it might be a promising technique to influence the outcome measures in this study, however, with current results and the lack of in the literature, a recommendation can not be made for the use of PNF stretching and PNF patterns to influence cervical proprioception, ROM and strength.

Dinamik germe ve self-mobilizasyon egzersizlerinin denge vepropriosepsiyona akut etkileri

In this study, dynamic stretching applied to healthy individuals with tight hip flexor muscle and the effects of self-mobilization exercises on muscle tightness , balance and proprioception were investigated. 36 Participants with healthy hip flexor muscle tightness were included in the study. The patients with hip flexor muscle tightness were divided into two groups by simple randomization method. Dynamic stretching exercise was applied to the first group and self-mobilization exercise was applied to the second group. Measurement methods were applied before and after the exercise. Hip flexor muscle tightness was measured by modified Thomas test. Proprioception was measured using a digital inclinometer using the active knee extension method. Dynamic balance was measured by Y balance test. As a result of post-exercise evaluations in both groups, there was a significant improvement in muscle tightness after exercise (p <0.05). There was no significant difference in hip flexor muscle tightness between two groups (p> 0.05). These results showed that dynamic stretching and self-mobilization exercises acutely improve muscle tightness. The lack of difference between the two groups shows that these two methods have the same effect on muscle tightness. When the effect on proprioception was compared, no significant difference was found in all proprioception values except the 30 degree left extremity value in the dynamic stretching group (p> 0.05). No significant difference was found between the groups in terms of proprioception (p> 0.05). Dynamic balance results measured by Y balance test showed a significant increase in both groups (p <0.05). No significant difference was found between the groups in terms of balance. According to these results, dynamic stretching and selfmobilization techniques acutely improve dynamic balance. The fact that there is no difference between the two groups shows that these two techniques do not have any superiority in terms of their effect on dynamic balance. As a result, we can say that dynamic stretching and self-mobilization exercises can significantly improve muscle tightness and dynamic balance , do not significantly change proprioception, however muscle tightness, proprioception and dynamic balance can be affected equally by these two exercises and there is no difference between these two exercises in terms of these parameters. Effect of anaerobic power and capacity on vertical jumping performance in female volleyball athletes

The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of anaerobic power and capacity on vertical jump performance in female volleyball athletes. Thirty-five (28.08±4.62years) female volleyball athletes who actively play in volleyball teams at elite level, participated in the study voluntarily. The age, height, weight of the volleyball players who participated in the study were taken. Body mass indexes of volleyball players were calculated with kg / m2 formula. Anaerobic power and capacity of volleyball players were measured by Wingate Anaerobic Performance Test (WAnPT), while vertical jump performance was measured by Optojump Photoelectric Cell System. Vertical jump performance was evaluated in two different jump positions as squat jump and countermovement jump. As a result of the correlation analysis of the data obtained with the tests, no relationship was found between anaerobic power and anaerobic capacity with squat jump. The result is meaningless statistically (p> 0.05). Moreover, no relationship was found between anaerobic power and anaerobic capacity with countermovement jump. Statistically the result is meaningless (p> 0.05). However, a relationship between relative anaerobic power and relative anaerobic capacity with squat jump; the result is statistically weak(p<0.05). In adddition, there was a relationship between relative anaerobic power and relative anaerobic capacity with countermovement jump, but statistically the result was weak(p<0.05). Also, there is a negative correlation between body mass index and squat jump(r= -0.454) and also there is a negative correlation between body mass index and countermovement jump(r= -0.590). These relationships and coefficients are moderate significant statistically.

Yoga ve pilates yapan kişilerde kas iskelet sistemi şikayetlerinin karşılaştırılması

Bu çalışmanın amacı yoga ve pilates sporlarıyla ilgilenen kişilerde oluşabilecek kas iskelet sistemi şikayetlerini karşılaştırmak, sporu yaptıran kişinin fizyoterapist ya da antrenör olmasının spor yapanlardaki kas iskelet sistemi şikayetleri konusunda bir fark yaratıp yaratmadığını sorgulamak ve yoga yapan, pilates yapan ve sedanter yaşayan gönüllü grupları arasında kas iskelet sistemi şikayetlerini karşılaştırmaktır. Çalışmaya rasgele seçilen, ancak 18-50 yaş aralığında yoga yapan, pilates yapan ve sedanter yaşayan 162 gönüllü katılımcı dahil edilmiştir. Katılımcıların 118'i kadın, 44'ü erkektir (yaş ortalaması 32,28±7,06yıl). Çalışmaya yoga yapan 54 (34,52±6,69yıl), pilates yapan 54 (30,56±5,46yıl ) ve sedanter yaşayan 54(32,28±7,06yıl ) kişi katılmıştır.Gönüllü katılımcılara sosyodemografik özellikleri sorulmuş ve Genişletilmiş Nordic Kas İskelet Anketi uygulanmıştır. Çalışmamızın sonucunda her üç gruptaki katılımcıların boyun, omuz, sırt, dirsek, el/el bileği, bel, kalça/uyluk ve ayak/bilek bölgelerindeki şikayetlerin dağılımları arasında istatistiksel açıdan (p>0.05) fark görülmemiştir. Yoga grubundaki katılımcıların diz bölgesindeki şikayetler pilates ve sedanter yaşam gruplarındakilerden istatistiksel (p<0.05) olarak daha yüksektir. Ayrıca sedanter yaşam ve yoga gruplarındaki katılımcıların en fazla sorun yaşadığı bölge bel iken pilates grubundaki katılımcıların en fazla sorun yaşadığı bölge boyundur. Anket sonuçları incelendiğinde yoga veya pilates yapan kişilerin sedanter yaşayan kişilere göre daha az kas iskelet sistemi şikayetine sahip olduğu görülmüştür. Fizyoterapist ile pilates yapan katılımcıların boyun ve diz bölgelerindeki sorun antrenör ile pilates yapan katılımcılardan istatistiksel (p<0.05) olarak daha düşüktür. Ayrıca fizyoterapist ile yoga yapan katılımcıların boyun bölgesindeki sorun antrenör ile yoga yapan katılımcılardan istatistiksel (p<0.05) olarak daha düşüktür.
