Knowledge, attitude and applications about human milk and breast feeding on mothers who have 0 ? 24 months old baby

About feeding a baby suggestion of all scientists, World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF and the policy of Ministry of Health is that first 6 months feeding babies only with breastfeeding not even giving water and after sixth month baby must be nursing up to 2 years by breast milk and additional suitable nourishment. This study is done to mothers who applied to Fırat Universty Hospital Pediatric Outpatient Clinics, for determining the mothers knowledge, attitude and state about breast milk and breastfeedingThis cross-sectional type study was practiced with a questionnare form which is including 44 questions by the 453 mothers who have 0-24 month baby applied to the Fırat Universty Hospital Pediatric Outpatient Clinics for consultationIn the scope of research the mothers age average were 28.0±5.49 years old. %45 of babies were males while %55 of babies were females. Babies average age was found 8.4±6.4 months. %56.5 of mothers have got information about breast milk and breastfeeding before birth. Course of to get information was %64.0 in postpartum time. %80.6 of mothers have suckled their babies at first with breast milk. After the evaluation of questionnare form; %98 of mothers have nursed their babies for a time but %2 of mothers never suckled their babies. After the evaluation of questionnare form; %98 of mothers have nursed their babies for a time but %2 of mothers never suckled their babies. %49.9 of mothers have suckled their babies in first hour after the birth. %90.9 of mothers said that they have give the colostrum to their babies. In study, average breastfeeding time was found 6.6±5.37 months. Shortage of average breastfeeding time was related with low average of babies which are observed. In our study; %84.6 of babies are nourished with breast milk in first month and this rate was %67.6 in fourth month. This rate has decreased to %28.7 end of the sixth monthConsequently the mothers who admitted to Fırat Universty Hospital Pediatric Outpatient Clinics, percent of nursing with breast milk after the birth is high. However the percent of nursing with only breast milk is low in first six month and percent of starting to additional nourishment is high in early period.
