Abstract (EN)

Islamophobia, after "terror attacks in USA in 11 September 2001" refers to the fear of or hostility towards Islam is a common problem of humanity which is on the rise in both Europe and the whole world. With Islamophobia, many crimes such as discrimination, violence, harassment and humiliation against Muslims have been committed. The discriminative discourse and strategies used by the media and the policies embraced by the extreme right politicians caused this crime against Muslims increase. Although it is the leading cause triggering Islamophobia, terrorism is not the only element. Radical terrorism is one of the elements triggering Islamophobia and is not the only element. Besides, Muslims' life styles, their inability to integrate with the West, religious holidays and rituals, immigration, Muslim women's clothing and the place in Islam are the factors that trigger Islamophobia. In addition, the lack of adequate and effective strategies by Western countries to combat is among the factors that increase Islamophobia. If the necessary measures are not taken against Islamophobia, which is considered as a crime against humanity, the problems between the Muslim and Christian populations living in Europe will continue to increase. For this reason, the EU struggles with Islamophobia by combating racism, and by working on the integration of Muslim immigrants into society. However, the studies carried out by the EU are not sufficient.
