Sheriye register (Nu: 1756/2) of Samsun (Transcription and evaluation)

This thesis aims to transcribe "The Court Register Number 1756-2 of Samsun'' that belongs to the years Hegira 1246-1265/1830-1849 and to evaluate Samsun's social and economical structure in the light of the documents in the register. Our work consists of four parts. In the first part, it has been given general information on the definition and content of court registers, the Ottoman judicial system, court and court officials in Ottoman Empire, and then the present-day situation of court registers and the studies on court registers have been discussed. In the second part, on the one hand the documents that constitute court registers are classified and on the other hand the records that take part in ''Court Register Number 1756-2 of Samsun'' are examined and evaluated. In the third part, Samsun's social, economic and administrative structure in 1830 and 1849 are determined with the help of the documents which has been transcribed before. In the final part, the transcribed version of the text of ''Court Register Number 1756-2 of Samsun'' is found. Key Words: Court, Judge, Court Register, Samsun.
