Şorba Kaza in the 19th Century

Şorba Kaza has been one the district of Ankara Sanjak for about three centuries. In the study, information is given about the social, economic and demographic situation of this kaza in the 19 th century. First of all, the meaning of Şorba, which gave its name to the kaza, was emphasized, and then information was given about its geographical location. In the continuation, under the title of historical development of the kaza; After seeking answers to questions such as when Şorba came to the status ofa township and when it became a township affiliated to the Yabanâbâd, the situation of Şorba, which was a township in the last quarter of the 19th century, was emphasized by using yearbooks. Population registers were used while giving information about its social and demographic structure. Thanks to the population registers started in 1830, important information about the population structure of the Ottoman society is obtained. Using the population registers dated 1856 and 1842, information was given about the estimated population, number of households, average age, occupation and description of the villages of Şorba. In order to give information about the economic situation of Şorba, the temettuʻât registers recorded in 1845 were used. Thanks to these books, valuable information was given about the assets, professions and incomes of the heads of the households. Thus, the administrative, social, demographic and economic structure of a district was tried to be revealed by using many archival sources that shed light on the 19th century.
