Abstract (EN)

This work was carried out through the Urfa Sher'iyya Registry No. 224/1 (1-158) H. 1287-1290/M. 1870-1873 aims to translate and analyze the minutes of the proceedings between the dates. The notebook has a total of 302 pages. In this thesis, pages between 1-158 were examined. Judicial cases that have been transferred to the court within a three-year period are the majority, while theft, murder, beating and cervical cases are predominant. It is seen that these crimes occur mostly in the countryside of the city. Offenders involved in wounding, beatings and murder have different motives. In addition to the acts that touch the honor of the person such as swearing, adultery and rape, many issues such as disagreements in daily relationships, family inheritance division, purchase and sale and credit-giving are listed among these reasons. The intensity of the crime tendency in the countryside is based on socio cultural reasons as well as the lack of security measures. In the minutes, not only the voices of men but also of women are heard. While they are present at any lawsuit, they are rarely seen lending. It is also valuable that in the records of the town doctors regarding the sick prisoners, the prison conditions of the period and the diseases experienced were touched. The conversion cases of Christians who applied to the court to convert to Islam are among the qadi records kept within a three-year period. The records in question contain the conditions that converts must meet in order to become Muslims and the path followed by the court. It is also important that the disputes between the parties in land disputes, the disputes in creditor-credit issues and the solutions can be determined through the records. In addition, edicts on the sending of criminal records, documents on persons who are deemed to be inappropriate makuleli and who disturb the public peace are among the cases in the book. Although rare, documents relating to alimony, surety, purchase-sale, bankruptcy, commercial partnership, desertion, insult to civil servants, municipal services and the attitudes of the tribes are among the records kept by the Urfa kaddish.
