6th grade students attitude to digital citizenship review

The scientific and technological changes and transformations experienced throughout the centuries also caused the changes in the social structure to be unavoidable. A lot of notions such as digital literacy, indigenousness and citizenship have been taken place in human lives by these changes. The digital indigenousness is defined as possessing the digital environments, being conscious of behaving in such atmospheres and arising of the digital indigenous people as a result of the disappearance of the country borders in the digital environments. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the behaviors of the 6th grades towards digital indigenousness. Data has been collected and analyzed from the students of some private, state and village schools in Mentese, Mugla by using the mixed method including both qualitative and quantitative research methods together in this study. In mixed method, the qualitative and quantitative data have been collected as separate sets and then analyzed as a whole. In the quantitative part of the study, data has been collected by the digital behavior scale formed by Karaduman (2011). In the qualitative part of the study, data has been collected by the means of structured evaluation forms. The collected quantitative data has been analyzed in digital environment. It has been determined from the analysis that the quantitative datas demonstrate normal distribution and parametric tests have been applied. Qualitative datas have been examined by content analysis. When quantitative results attained from the analysis are evaluated, meaningful difference between girl students and boy students towards digital citizenship has not been determined. The 6th grade students' attitudes in private schools towards digital citizenship when compared to those in state schools have been found higher. According to the environment of the school and types of schools, when the 6th grade students' attitudes related to digital citizenship are examined, students' attitudes in private schools in city center have been observed higher than those in state and village schools. When compared to parental education, the attitudes towards digital citizenship of the 6th grade students whose parents have university degree have more positive attitudes than those whose parents have primary education. When the qualitative datas are examined, it has been seen that the 6th grade students in city center have more access to digital tools than those in village schools. It has been concluded that the students studying in village schools answer fewer questions in the qualitative part. When qualitative datas and quantitative datas are evaluated together, it has been concluded that the 6th grade students studying in private and state schools in city center use digital environments more and have more positive attitudes than those studying in village schools.
