Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACT MASTER THESIS EFFECT OF TROLOX AND HYDROQUINONE ON LIPID SPECIES OF RATS GIVEN 7,12-DIMETHYLBENZ[A]ANTRACENE Mustafa GÜNDÜZ Fırat University Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciencies Departman of Chemistry 2002, Page: 57 The aim of this work was to determine the effects of trolox (water-soluble vitamin E analogue) and hydroquinone on saturated and unsaturated fatty acids of rats given 7,12-dimethylbenz[a]antracene, which a carcinogenic subctance (DMBA).The proportion of 20:4 (arachidonic acide) and 22:6 (docosahexaenoic acide) in all tissues were significantly decreased in the DMBA group as compared to the control group. The level of 20:4 and 22:6 unsaturated fatty acids were reduced in the DMBA group and 18:1 (oleic acide) were high in same group as compared to DMBA+Trolox in brain tissues. The level of 18:0 (stearic acide), 20:4, 22:6 and total PUFA fatty acids were reduced in the DMBA group and 18:1 and 18:2 (linoleic acide) were high in same group as compared to DMBA+Trolox in liver tissues. The level of 20:4, 22:6 and total PUFA fatty acids were reduced in the DMBA group as compared to DMBA+Trolox in muscle tissues. In conclusion, the protective effect of intraperitoneally administrated trolox on the polyunsature fatty acids (PUF As) of brain, liver and muscle tissues was observed. Key Word: Trolox, Hydroquinone, 7,12-Dimethylbenz[a]antracene, Free Radical, Antioxidant, Lipid peroxidation, Polyunsature Fatty Acide (PUFA), Rat
