Abd Al-Aziz Chawish and his perspectives on the late period theological problems

The purpose of this study is to determine the approaches of one of the late period Muslim scholars, Abd al-Azīz Chawish, to the theological matters, his opinions about the Islamic creeds, and his responses against the criticisms towards Islam. Based on, especially, on Abd al-Aziz Chawish's own writings, this study comprises of an introduction and three chapters. In the introductory chapter and the first chapter, the information was given, first, about the purpose and scope of the study as well as the life and writings of Chawish. The second chapter analyses the theological opinions of Chawish on metaphysics (al-ilāhiyyāt), the prophethood (al-nubuwwāt), and the afterlife (al-sam'iyyāt), and debated issues about them. Subsequently, the third chapter is devoted to examine Chawish's approaches to the issues other than debated topics of classical Muslim theology such as politics, ethics, Islamic rituals, religion, and Islam.
