Abstract (EN)
Language has been one of the most essential tools for socialization, communication, and cultural transmission from the beginning of human history to the present day. Societies have transmitted their cultural and sociological characteristics to future generations through language. In this context, Turkish society has prioritized teaching its native language within the framework of its unique linguistic rules to accurately convey its tangible and intangible cultural heritage. Today, the systematic teaching of Turkish language is undertaken by educational institutions affiliated with the Ministry of National Education. At each educational level, different aspects of Turkish grammar are emphasized. One of these is the teaching of word groups, which enhance the richness of expression and communicative power, particularly at the middle school level. However, despite the extensive repertoire of Turkish children's literature, it is noteworthy that the number of sample texts available for teaching word groups in Turkish language is insufficient. This deficiency underscores the need to develop suitable materials for teachers and students, highlighting the importance of creating more resources tailored to this specific area of language education. In light of this, the present study aims to evaluate the word groups found in "Ağaçkakanlar" a work written by Abdurrahman Cahit Zarifoğlu, one of the prominent figures of Turkish literature, within the context of Turkish language education. The study adopts a qualitative research design, specifically a descriptive case study approach. Data were collected through document analysis and analyzed using content analysis methods. In this process, the sentences in "Ağaçkakanlar" were first identified, followed by an examination of their elements, and subsequently, the word groups within these elements were determined. During the literature review conducted as part of the research, it was observed that there is no complete consensus among experts regarding the definition and classification of word groups. Therefore, this study is based on the definitions and classifications provided in Prof. Dr. Leylâ Karahan's work titled "Türkçede Söz Dizimi" (Syntax in Turkish). Furthermore, the frequencies and percentages of the word groups identified according to Karahan's classification were calculated and presented in the findings section through tables. The findings obtained from this research were discussed within the framework of similarities and differences with other studies in the literature. Based on the analysis and discussions, it was concluded that Zarifoğlu's work exemplifies the use of all types of word groups and that this work can be utilized as a valuable resource for teaching word groups in Turkish language education.
