Abstract (EN)

Introduction and Aim: Stroke is among the leading causes of disability and death in the world. Therefore, early diagnosis and initiation of treatment is important. Although many parameters are used in the prognostic evaluation of stroke today, an ideal laboratory method with high sensitivity and specificity has not yet been found. In our study, the success of IG in predicting prognosis in stroke cases is investigated. Materials and Methods: Our study is a retrospective and single-center study. Those who met the study criteria among ischemic stroke cases who applied to Mersin University Faculty of Medicine Emergency Service between 01.01.2021 and 01.09.2022 were included in the study. The patients were divided into two groups: alive and live. The relationship between early (28-day) and late (1-year) mortality and IG% was evaluated. The patients' ages, gender, immature granulocyte and other laboratory values were recorded in the study form. Results: 52.8% of the 282 patients in the study were male. The average age of the patients was determined as 69.88±12.90 years. For both 28-day and 1-year mortality, GCS was found to be significantly lower, and leukocyte level and IG level were significantly higher. In the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis performed to predict 28-day mortality, for the IG (%) cut-off value of 0.35, the sensitivity was 82.8% and the specificity was 42% (Area Under the Curve (AUC): 0.654; 95% CI: 0.574-0.734; p<0.001). Moreover, in the ROC analysis performed to predict one-year mortality, for the IG (%) cut-off value of 0.35, the sensitivity was 82.8% and the specificity was 42% (Area Under the Curve (AUC): 0.654; 95% CI: 0.574-0.734; p<0.001) was seen. Conclusion: IG level appears to be a successful biomarker in determining mortality in stroke cases. However, in order for these results to be generalizable, multicenter studies with a larger number of patients are needed.
