The effect of camping on anxiety from outdoor recreational activities

Abstract (EN)

In this study, the effect of camping, one of the outdoor recreational activities, on anxiety is examined. As the study group, the participants were determined by appropriate sampling method and consisted of 319 participants who participated in the camp activity in Ankara and did not participate. The data were collected by applying an online survey via social media. The sociodemographic data form determined in line with the purpose of the research and Dr. The 21-item Beck Anxiety Scale developed by Aron T. Beck was applied. The analysis of the data was evaluated with the SPSS 25.0 package program. T-Test was used in paired groups and One-Way Analysis of Variance (One-Way ANOVA) test was used in groups with more than two in order to compare various variables for data analysis. The significance level was taken as p<0.05. In the findings of the study, no statistically significant difference was found in the anxiety levels of the participants as a result of the tests applied to the variables of gender, age group and educational status (p>0.05).A statistically significant difference was found in the anxiety levels of the tests applied to the participants' marital status, income status and participation in the camp activity (p<0.05). As a result, it has been seen that individuals' participation in camping activities and their involvement in outdoor recreational activities in interaction with nature have a positive effect on their anxiety levels.
