Abstract (EN)

Objective: The inflammatory response that occurs during cardiopulmonary bypass and the molecular oxygen used cause the formation of free oxygen radicals and oxidative stress. The resulting oxidative stress is responsible for the postoperative mortality and morbidity caused by damage to the structure and function of biomolecules, especially through lipid peroxidation. In our study, we investigated the effects of oxygen levels applied during cardiopulmonary bypass on postoperative clinical results. Materials and Methods: In our retrospective study, 260 patient files were scanned. Maximum PaO2 levels reached during cardiopulmonary bypass were collected in three groups (PaO2= 100-199 mmHg; PaO2= 200-299 mmHg; PaO2≥300 mmHg). By calculating the inflammatory response SIRS, perfusion; The lactate, creatinine and urine amount were evaluated, and the cardiac performance was evaluated by calculating the inotrope scores. Results: At the end of our study, high oxygen levels applied during cardiopulmonary bypass and mortality were found to be related. There was no significant relationship between cyanotic and acyanotic patients or groups in terms of SIRS development. Conclusion: High oxygen levels are closely associated with mortality. Therefore, we think that caution should be exercised when using supraphysiological oxygen, although its beneficial efficacy has also been demonstrated.
