Abstract (EN)

Aim: Vaccination is as important in adulthood as it is in childhood, but vaccination of adults is not at an adequate level in the society. The aim of this study was to measure the vaccination frequency and knowledge level of recommended vaccines for adults and to increase awareness of adult vaccines. Materials and methods: This study is a cross-sectional, descriptive and analytical study conducted to evaluate the knowledge, attitudes and behaviors of people aged 18-65 years about adult vaccines. It was conducted between 01.06.2023-01.09.2023 among patients aged 18-65 years who applied to Uşak Training and Research Hospital Family Medicine Polyclinic. Results: In our study, 73.1% (n=285) of the participants stated that they received the necessary childhood vaccinations. As the age increases, there is a significant decrease in the rate of receiving childhood vaccinations. The society in general recognizes the importance of childhood vaccinations. Tetanus and influenza vaccines stand out commonly known vaccines among all the vaccines. Significantly, individuals with chronic diseases are more aware of the flu vaccine. Most participants agreed that adults should be vaccinated against influenza, hepatitis B, hepatitis A, pneumococcal (pneumonia), meningococcal (meningitis), HPV and tetanus diphtheria. Conclusion: We found that the general public accepted the importance of childhood vaccines, but their knowledge about adult vaccination was limited to tetanus and influenza vaccines. In order to prevent vaccine-preventable diseases, more information about adult vaccination should be conducted.
