Rational behaviour education

The purpose of this study was to develop a `Rational Behaviour Training? based on the principles of Rational Emotional Behaviour Therapy and help students assigned in experimental group to decrease their irrational thinking, feeling and behaviour and enhance their rational thinking, feeling and behaviour.Third grade students at Psychological Counselling and Guidance Department in Education Faculty at Çukurova University participated to the study. Sixteen females and 14 males, total 30 students involved in the study. Students were assigned to the experimental and control groups by random. Cognitive Distortion Scale developed by Türküm (1996) was used to measure dependent variable. The scale was administrated to students at experimental and control groups before experimental treatment as pre-test and at the end of the experimental treatment as post-test.Five months after completing the experimental treatment a follow up measure was obtained from the experimental group.Rational Behaviour Training consisted of 14 sessions and counselling techniques of cognitive emotional behavioural was used in conjunction with psychodrama techniques. 2x2 variance analysis technique of repeated measure was used to compare pre and post tests mean scores obtained from experimental and control group. One way Anova for repeated measure was also used see whether change on experimental group is permanent. Results showed that Rational Behaviour Training has positive effect on students? irrational beliefs and this effect is permanent. Recommendations are made for research and practices with Rational Emotional Training and Rational Behaviour Training.Key Words : Rational Behaviour Educatıon, Rational Emotive Therapy
