Abstract (EN)

In this study, it is aimed to examine the relationship between emotional abuse and the need for social approval. The research was carried out with the Perceived Emotional Abuse Scale for Adults, the Need for Social Approval Scale, and the "Personal Information Form" created by the researcher to collect the sociodemographic information of the participants, applied to a total of 234 adults, aged 18 and over, 120 women and 114 men living in the province of Istanbul. Analyzes of all data were made with the SPSS 27 program. Before starting the analysis, the skewness and kurtosis values of the scales were checked by checking whether the scales met the assumption of normal distribution. Pearson correlation analysis was used to test the relationship between measurement tools, Independent Groups t-test and ANOVA were used to compare scale scores according to demographic variables, and Simple Linear Regression was used for predictive analysis. In addition, the 95% confidence interval for this study was referenced as a p value of 0.05. As a result of the analysis, moderate and high level positive correlations were found between perceived emotional abuse and the sub-dimensions of the need for social approval and need for social approval, sensitivity to the judgments of others, social withdrawal and leaving a positive impression.
