The perception of reality in Ali Teoman's works

Ali Teoman who entered the world of literature in 1991 with 'A Hidden Istanbul Tale', had written eight stories, five novels, two diaries, a narrative and an essay during his forty eight years of life. As he wanted to devote his life to writing itself, Teoman chose to being an English language lecturer over architecture which was his main profession so that he could spare much time to writing. As his personality led him to try to be good at his works, his perfectionist attitude reveals itself in his literary works as well. Ali Teoman builds his works -even some parts of his own life- somewhere between reality and fiction. He blurs and deforms and reshape reality with his fiction techniques. Understanding Teoman's relationship with reality can be a crucial starting point to determine the author's place in the Turkish literature. The first part of this thesis covers the author's life and works. In the second part, reality in science and literature is discussed.
