Problem of values in German idealism Hartman's ethics of values

This study aims at investigating the question of values in German idealism and Nicolai Hartmann's ethics of values. In this regard, the approach of German idealists towards values is delineated with a particular focus on Kantian philosophy of morals in a bid to disclose the Hartmann's concept of values. The study is comprised of an introduction followed by a four chapters lasting with the conclusion. Introduction is focused on the question of values in terms of a historical development of philosophy of morality and the problems related to the latter. The subject, purpose and the methods of the thesis are also clarified. First chapter deals with the German idealist's approach to values, theories on ethics of values and the related questions. The fundamentals of Hartmann's philosophy of morality and the notion of value are to be concerned. Second chapter puts the Hartmann's philosophy of morality along with an analysis over his approach to pertaining theories. Moreover, his critical concepts on the ethics of values are critiqued. Third chapter offers an in depth analysis on Hartmann approach to values from a phenomenological point of the view. The following chapter clarifies the Hartmann's approach to the problem of liberty, one of the most important problems of ethics, and his criticisms towards other interpretations within this regard from an analytical point of the view. In the conclusion, the outcome of the study is discussed. Besides, it is proved that Hartmann's concept on ethics and values is open to prospective studies with a particular interest to former thoughts.
